The Inuit believed labradorite held the frozen fire of the Northern Lights. The Romans ground bronzite into powder and used it as a talisman against confusion.

Product Highlights:

  • The Stone: Two stones, both matte, both dark. The labradorite beads are frosted grey, their usual flash softened by the matte finish. The effect is quieter and more textured than polished labradorite. You catch glimpses of color, but you have to look for them. The two bronzite beads at the center are earthy brown with a subtle bronze shimmer from fine iron inside the stone. They sit between two ornate sterling silver beads and disc spacers.
  • History: Labradorite was first recorded in 1770 by missionaries on the Isle of Paul in Canada, though the Inuit people knew it long before. They called it a fire stone and believed it held the frozen light of the Aurora Borealis. According to Inuit legend, a warrior struck the coastal rocks with his spear and released the Northern Lights into the sky, but some of the light remained trapped in the stone forever. Bronzite has a simpler record. Its original name, enstatite, comes from the Greek word for adversary. The name bronzite was adopted in 1806 because it looks like bronze. The Romans used powdered bronzite as a protective talisman, believing it could ward off confusion and mental illness. Interestingly, it has also been found in meteorites, making it one of the few stones that also exists in space.
  • The Belief: In modern crystal practice, labradorite is a third eye chakra stone, said to strengthen intuition, transformation, and protection. Bronzite is a solar plexus stone, said to strengthen grounding, decisiveness, and composure under pressure. It is sometimes called the stone of courtesy because it promotes calm and respectful action, even in difficult situations.
